Hornets Volleyball Survives Five-Set Thriller Against Lassiter

The Match

It looked bleak after two sets. Lassiter had come into the Hornets Nest with a game plan, and for the first half of Friday night's match, it was working. The Trojans took the opening set 25-21 and followed it up with a dominant 25-17 performance in the second, leaving Roswell staring down a potential sweep.

But the Hornets had other ideas. Head coach Sarah Mitchell called a timeout before the third set and delivered a message that seemed to reset the entire team. Roswell came out of the break with a different energy — sharper, louder, and more aggressive at the net.

The third set went to Roswell 25-19. The fourth was even more decisive at 25-14. By the time the fifth set began, the gym was at full volume, and the momentum had completely shifted.

Down two sets, the Hornets refused to fold — and the crowd refused to leave.

Key Performances

Senior middle blocker Jordan Hayes was the difference-maker in the final three sets, recording six of her eight total blocks in the comeback portion of the match. Her presence at the net disrupted Lassiter's offensive rhythm and gave Roswell's back row time to reset.

Outside hitter Mia Torres continued her strong start to the season with 18 kills, including back-to-back winners to close out the fifth set. Setter Emma Park was steady throughout, finishing with 41 assists and making smart decisions under pressure.

"We just had to trust each other," Torres said after the match. "We've been in tough spots before. We knew if we stayed together, we could turn it around."

What It Means

The win keeps Roswell undefeated in region play and sends a message to the rest of the field. Coming back from two sets down is rare at any level — doing it against a Lassiter team that entered the match with a winning record makes it more impressive.

Mitchell was measured in her praise but clearly pleased. "We have a lot of work to do," she said, "but the character these kids showed tonight — that's not something you can coach. That's just who they are."

Roswell's next match is Tuesday at home against Alpharetta. With the region tournament approaching, every match from here on out carries extra weight.
